About this Blog

After reading the book 365: A Daily Creativity Journal: Make Something Every Day and Change Your Life!
I decided to start a project and create something every day for a year. I decided to use index cards because they are small, cheap and have lots of potential. They also travel well should I need to work away from my home office.
There are no rules. I can use any media, I can work in 2-D or 3-D. Whatever I think up or feel like making that day goes.
I am going to try to get each Index Card (IC) to represent the day/mood/feeling/event if I can.

Day 31 - 1/31/12

January seems so long. Can't believe it's finally over and I have posted every day. (okay some times the next morning but still I have 31 posts in 31 days)
Today's is a working index card as I forgot my roster, I scribbled down the number of the students who were absent from the roster online . Couldn't find a pen so I used a marker. Also scribbled some reminders for when I got home after I did find a pen.

Day 30 - 1/30/12

I made this on the plane coming home in honor of George singing the names of all my friends and me during baby girl.

Day 26 - 1/26/12

Just felt like lettering and this is the first quote that came to mind

Day 25 - 1/25/12

I don't know why I spend so much time deciding on a design. I tossed several rejects tonight. Why? No one is reading this blog but me, so what does it matter. It is forcing me to use my creative brain which is the point I guess. That a d proving to myself I can stick to something for a whole year.
I suppose in some parallel universe I sold this for millions of dollars

Day 24 - 1/24/12

Today went well until right about 4:00. Then everything went wrong. It wasn't even plan B more like plan Q. So I'm tired and this represents how I feel

Day 23 - 1/23/12

I have loved alphabets ever since I took lettering and layout in high school.

Day 22 - 1/22/12

While not strictly speaking an "index card" I'm very proud of this. I made it on the computer for a project in my algebra 2 class this week.

Day 20 - 1/20/12

Looking around for something to sketch I spotted the pencil in my hand. It's a bit tricky to sketch the pencil you are using but I managed. Pencils always make me think of my mom.

Day 19 - 1/19/12

Tried to copy a design in the zenspirations book without looking back at it. I like the bottom part not crazy about the top part. Perhaps because when I checked it was nothin like the design I was trying to copy

Day 18 - 1/18/12

Pulled out a cheap little watercolor kit and this is the result. Index cards do not make good watercolor paper. They curl.

Day 17 - 1/17/12

Today I worked at school. This is the doodle I made while my algebra class took a quiz. Wait, is it upside down? Just kidding

Day 15 - 1/15/12

I love to build nets. At least that is what they were called in geometry. I enjoy using the part of my brain that takes a three dimensional object and flattens it out, where to cut, where to crease, where to put a flap, etc. a cube is a relatively simple net. All squares.
Pen, knife, glue stick and tape

Day 14 - 1/14/12

One of my favorite tools is the safe-T compass. I own several. They demonstrate them at the math conference every year. I wish I had used more contrasting colors.
Pencil, pen.

Day 13 - 1/13/12

For most people Friday after work means go out for drinks. I don't drink. For me it means Sushi! When I sat down to think about how to sum up today. This is what came to mind. I'm enjoying the Zenspirations and think I'm getting better at them.
Colored pencil and ink.

Day 12 - 1/12/12

Another idea from zenspirations. Must say it looks easier in the book.
Cross: pen and colored pencil

Day 11 - 1/11/12

So, the problem with the mirrors in my Zumba class is that in my head I look like the picture on the left and then I catch a glimpse of (reality) the person on the right.
Pencil sketch, colored pencil and ink.

Day 10 - 1/10/12

The 365 book said to make a stencil and use it in your work. So, I used a monkey punch and made 42 monkeys. They kind of look like cats.
Colored pencil.

Day 9 - 1/9/12

I folded the IC in half and just started carving with an x-acto knife. Not sure what it is. Not sure I even like it.

Day 7 - 1/7/12

Today's IC is a coffin for poor Brown crayon who survived the fall from desk to floor but then died in a rolling chair accident. All pieces were collected and interred here.
Scissors, tape and pen.

Day 6 - 1/6/12

In honor of the 3rd annual drama geek Princess Bride party.
Pen and crayon on IC

Day 5 - 1/5/12

Today's IC was inspired by three things. That it's my last day home on vacation before second semester starts. That I spent an hour on the phone with my financial planner trying to figure out if I'm going to refinance. And this wonderful book called Zenspirations: Letters & Patterns by Joanne Fink. I will post the link later.
Stablo pens on index card.

Day 4 - 1/4/12

Today's doodle is Valencia, my orange cat who managed to get herself locked in the linen closet the other night.
Pen and crayon, love that the color on the crayon is "macaroni and cheese"
Today was going to be dedicated to the fabulous mani-pedi I got but I did not like my drawing of toes

Day 3 - 1/3/12

In honor of my friend's last trip to Disneyland before she joins a cloister. She loves to ride the Matterhorn with its rumbly track and scary Yeti. Near the Matterhorn is a popcorn cart and the little character inside is a Yeti who has black shoes. We pointed out that in the ride the Yeti does not wear shoes (must be a health code for popcorn workers) So as we fly by in our bobsled we yell "No Shoes"
Made of 3 index cards with crayon, marker, scissors and an x-acto knife.

Day 2 - 1/2/12

I was going to make something related to the Rose Parade but I decided to test out my new pen set and liked it so much that it is now IC #2. It didn't take me very long to do; I hope I remember that when life gets crazy and I think I don't have time to post.
Oh, the pens don't have names for the colors so I wrote what color I thought it was. After I took the picture I decided that "charcoal" was more like "dark olive".

Day 1 - 1/1/12

Okay here goes. Today's index card was cut using a dull x-acto knife and a mouse pad. It seemed the best way to start this project with 2012. Happy new year
